AVN: Beginning or end – which is it?

Meryl Dorey, President of the Australian Vaccination Network (AVN), announced the launch of Living Wisdom, the new magazine of the AVN, in the May 2008 edition of Doing the Rounds⁽¹⁾

An ending – and a new beginning

We have just gone to print with what will be the very last edition of Informed Voice magazine. (Sure to be a collector’s item – don’t miss out on your copy!) Do not despair however because this butterfly has gone into its cocoon and will be re-emerging a bit over 3 months down the track as Living Wisdom. The same great magazine with a fantastic fresh new look and a wonderful new name!

We are very excited about this new magazine which will have all of the great content you have come to expect from Informed Voice – and more! We have listened to what you, our readers and supporters have asked in our recent readership survey, and have implemented many of those changes in this new magazine. Some changes will start from the very first issue – some will be phased in gradually over the coming months. But this will be the magazine that YOU have asked for and one that will be well worth reading, subscribing to and letting others know about. Challenges

Life is full of challenges. As a mother of 3 teenage children (with a fourth entering that age bracket in just a matter of weeks), I feel very qualified to talk about the challenges of relating to these wonderful beings who have all of the answers to every question ever asked including the ones we haven’t even thought of yet! It isn’t easy – and even though I can still remember myself the time when I ‘knew it all’, that doesn’t help much when I am on the receiving end of rolling eyes, snorts of derisive laughter and just plain giggles because I am such a ‘dag’ about music, modern literature and life in general….

…I don’t know how many people reading this email are or ever have been financial members or subscribers, but I do know that over the last few months, we have had a drastic decline in support in both departments. So much so that we are looking at having to cut back our services and – dare I say it – close down completely if things don’t improve quickly and dramatically.

May was a new beginning, but by June we are presented with a threat of closure, or at least a cut back of services.

I do note that cutting back services did not include the launch of a professional, glossy magazine with its associated editor’s charges as appear on the AVN annual statements. And yes, the editor of Living Wisdom is Meryl Dorey.
