What is homeoprophylaxis?
Homeoprophylaxis is a form of immunisation using homeopathy to prevent epidemic diseases. One well-known Australian homeopathic business1 states the following:
Homeopathic immunisation is effective against poliomyelitis, chickenpox, meningococcal disease, hepatitis (all types), Japanese encephalitis, Hib, influenza, measles, pneumococcal disease, cholera, smallpox, typhoid, typhus, whooping cough, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, malaria, tetanus, yellow fever, dysentery, and many other epidemic diseases.
It is important to note that homeopathic solutions contain nothing but water, or sometimes brandy. Homeopathic pills contain nothing but sugar and water.
The principles of homeopathy are totally implausible. There is no such thing as ‘magical memory water’. It has never been demonstrated that sugar and water are effective in protecting anyone from disease. Homeopathy does not work because it is impossible for it to work.
Homeoprophylaxis is therefore no substitute for vaccinations.
The Australian Vaccination Network (AVN) seminars have often featured Isaac Golden, a homeopath, promoting homeoprophylaxis. Meryl Dorey stated in a television interview(2) that she herself has treated diseases using homeopathy. This advice is dangerous. Water does not prevent epidemic diseases. Water does not treat disease.
